Search the Collection
Search the PhageBank UK collection by bacterial host, strain, genus, species or BMCPR ID. Search results provide collection-level counts only and do not display individual phage or bacterial records.
Classification at a Glance
Phages within the collection are classified using genome-based approaches, including TaxMyPhage and ViPTree. This allows us to explore the taxonomic diversity represented across PhageBank UK and identify potentially novel groups.
Where our analyses support the identification of novel species, genera or families, these are submitted to the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) for formal recognition.
As we are discovering many new genera and species, we use placeholders for groups identified as novel. For example, bmcpr_g55 includes phages in proposed new genus 55, while bmcpr_sp11 includes phages in a proposed new species. These numbers are arbitrary and sequential until formal ICTV recognition, when recognised names will be used.
